Feed the cut fabric through a vintage sewing machine and turn the panels into a dress.
Place buttons, bows, appliqué, lace, and other accessories wherever you like.
This is not about choosing a dress — it is about making one
Dressmaker starts before the dress exists. The official information lists fabrics such as cotton, linen, wool, silk, and velvet. You plan colors and materials in a sketchbook, then arrange pattern pieces on the fabric and cut them out. The process is inspired by real dressmaking, but the developers say no prior sewing knowledge is required.

Even pattern placement shows up in the finished garment
One of the more distinctive ideas is that the way you arrange the pattern matters. Aligning pieces with the grain or cutting on the bias changes how the final garment appears, and you can choose a different fabric for each panel. The result reflects not just which dress you made, but how you made it.

After cutting, you actually sew the pieces together
Cutting the pieces does not instantly turn them into a finished dress. You feed the fabric through the sewing machine and stitch the panels together. That makes Dressmaker feel less like a pure fashion-design tool and more like a hands-on simulation of the making process itself.

The finishing touches are yours too
The process continues after the sewing is done. Buttons, bows, appliqué, lace trims, and other accessories can be placed freely. Because the same workflow covers fabric choice, cutting, sewing, and decoration, the same base dress can end up looking very different depending on the player.

There is also a shopkeeper loop built around commissions
Townsfolk commission dresses based on their tastes and upcoming events. Completing commissions earns reputation and coin, while your own designs can also be displayed in the shop window and sold off the rack. The crafting loop is therefore framed as the work of running a small dressmaking shop. And yes, the official press kit explicitly confirms that you can pet the cat.
